Croatia is gaining a reputation as one of Europe’s trendiest holiday destinations. A Mediterranean and central European country, it is becoming a reputation among young trend setters as the place to go for cheap holidays.
Croatia boasts an incredible 5,835 kilometres of coastline, of which 4,057 kilometres belongs to islands, cliffs and reefs. The climate is Mediterranean, meaning warm dry summers and mild winters. With a yearly average of 2,600 hours of sunlight, Croatia has one of the sunniest coastlines in Europe. It’s clear to see why it has become so popular in recent years. The climate inland is more continental, with hot, sunny summers and cold, snowy winters.
More recently, many holidaymakers have been timing their visits to Croatia with one of the numerous festivals which take place along the coast during the summer. The short flight time from the UK means it is possible to take any length of holiday - from a short break of a few days up to two or three weeks. The longer you visit Croatia, the more of this wonderful country you’ll be able to see. You could split a fortnight in two, spending one week travelling around Croatia, and the other lazing on the beach.
And on that note, travelling around Croatia is a great experience. Car hire is a great idea for longer breaks, as it gives you the freedom to visit more places, and at your own pace. Croatia’s public transport network is excellent, with trains and buses running up and down the coast and inland continually. If time is a factor, there are regular flights between Zagreb and Croatia’s other airports. Or, for an altogether more laid back experience, numerous ferries go from the mainland to and between the islands.
There are countless different types of accommodation in Croatia. Choose from boutique or budget hotels, hostels, apartments, campsites or even a lighthouse! Tip: Book well in advance. Flights to Croatia from the UK do not run as frequently or from as many airports as other European destinations, so getting everything organised as early on as possible is vital.
